Mothers trying to find safe place for their children

By Laila Tawakkol Khadeja, 36 years old, fled out with her husband and four children to al-Mallaha area in the eastern countryside of Homs. She  she settled down in wretched mud-made  room with no roof or windows . She had to live in this room since it is better than the empty warehouse that her neighbor has took as a shelter during the displacement trip. A Story Between Difficulty of Travelling and Amputation Suffering

During the current crisis, some people lost their lower or upper limbs ; either they had an injury or their illness developed to the extent that they lost one of their limbs. On  April 2014, the Disaster management committee of SARC- Homs branch  insisted on forming a PWSN team. A sheltering Story

Fatima, a mother of three, was forced out her home three years ago. A year and half has passed since she sheltered in one of the collective shelters in Aleppo. She depends on selling simple items to make a living as she has no breadwinner and her oldest child is only fifteen. New hope shines in Maria’s life

Thanks to SARc, Maria “13 years” overcomes all faced obstacles and managed to learn drawing and knitting. The child, who was born deaf, joined a wool knitting course organized by SARC -PSS team in Al Tall area. These kind of courses help those children to integrate with their children peers, and provide them with matching needs

Reaping the Golden Crop

Held with strong hands, the yellow golden crop along the sprawling meadows are an auspicious indicator of a good harvest season for the farmers, who benefited from the chickpea and fertilizer donation this year. Mobile health clinic provides health care services for children in Al-Qaboun

Behind This beautiful smile hide six months of treatment that could be only realized by those who know baby Muneer. On his first visit to the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) malnutrition clinic in Al-Tall, Rural Damascus, he was diagnosed with acute malnutrition according to all medical checkup criterion. Blankets are turned into winter clothes

The blankets distributed to the people in Al-Tadreeb Al-Jaameh shelter in Dumair , Rural Damascus  were more than warm coverings as Um Hammad managed to turn it into winter clothes using a needle and thread and her talent in sewing. In the shelter, Um Hammad used the blankets provided by SARC to make a dress for a child and a cloak for an old man there in order to feel warm during the harsh cold winter with the least affordable costs. Family’s bond challenges the cold winter

A strong will and determination that what have helped Nour (8 years) to fight the blood cancer that consumed her slim body. She is a daughter of a physically handicapped father, who cannot move but still embrace his children. Emilda love to do her homework at the community centre

Emilda, 8, likes to come to the community centre in Al-Ghizlanieh,  Rural Damascus, to do her homework. “Here I can study better. Even my teachers at school have noticed that, she says. Five years ago, Emilda had to leave her home in Al-Thiablieh in Rural Damascus due to the difficult situation there. During the years, she has been coming to the centre. Emilda’s dream is to become a lawyer. She would also like to help people to get better housing in the future. This project is supported by International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies

 Taim was watching the dermatologist with his beautiful hazel eyes while she was examing his hands carefully. Suddenly a rash appears on his hands, so the 5 years old boy and his father went to SARC’s Medical center at Al-Othman. He promised that he will follow the instructions and use the prescribed ointment and soap as the doctor said. “When I become big, I want to join SARC psychosocial support team and I want to help those children who feel sad and lonely. I will tell them nice stories that make them smile” Taim said.

The Tree of Wishes

“I like to come to the community centre and attend all activities to win gifts”, says Hala, 8. One of her favorite activities at Al-Ghizlanieh community centre, in Rural Damascus, is the Tree of Wishes. Hala hangs her wish on the branches: “I have many wishes, for example I want to become lawyer when I grow up.” The Tree of Wishes gives the children an opportunity to express their hopes somewhere. “At least, I can hang my wishes here, on the branches of the tree,” Hala says.
